THE SECOND EMPIRE STRIKES BACK

The Second Empire style was most popular during the middle to late-nineteenth century and is most natably characterized by use of the mansard roof. There are a surprising number of examples of these homes still in use and in good condition. But like many old houses, they’re often quite limited in how well they can be adapted to modern needs. We wanted to show how a modern expansion could be added to one of these homes, while preserving its historic facade.
